Barbados Southern Caribbean Cruises

Written by Jeff Heath
Barbados is a port of call on Southern Caribbean Cruises typically lasting seven or more days because the island is located so far south of Florida. Barbados is 1,600 miles south of Florida, just 225 miles off the coast of South America. Most cruises to Barbados depart from San Juan, Puerto Rico - only 600 miles away. Cruise ships to Barbados arrive at the Bridgetown Cruise Terminal and typically stay docked 8 to 16 hours. The Bridgetown Cruise Terminal, which is about one mile from downtown Bridgetown, has 20 duty-free shops, several local tour operators, rental car agencies, and taxis. Passengers who have purchased shore tours will depart for their tours from
the cruise terminal.

Barbados Shore Tours

Since time ashore is limited, most passengers purchase shore tours directly from the cruise line. One of many local tours includes the Atlantis Submarine, which submerges to a depth of 55 feet to view coral reefs and 150 feet to view a sunken shipwreck. Other shore tours include Harrison's Cave, historic sugar plantations, snorkeling, helicopter rides, a Jolly Roger Pirate Cruise and more. Passengers may hire their own taxi Royal Caribbean Radiance of the Seas at the cruise ship terminal for an around-the-island taxi tour. Taxi tours cost about $20Royal Caribbean Barbados Cruise Ship per hour. Plan to spend 3 to 6 hours and share the taxi with up to four passengers. Passengers can also make their own arrangements using Barbados-based tour operators including Foster and Ince Cruise Services (246-431- 8921) or Boyce's Tours (246-425-5366).
